Hey there!

In therapy with Travis, you will be welcomed into a warm space for open, honest reflection and exploration. Travis partners with you while you build a greater understanding of your patterns in thinking, feeling and relating to others. Travis believes one of the most important parts of therapy is developing an alliance between client and therapist, where you have input in the process, feel supported and are challenged with kindness, in order to move toward your goals. In addition to this approach, Travis incorporates an understanding of how social systems create pressure on our lives and how this differs from people with varying identities and experiences. Travis feels the most rewarding therapy isn’t always the most comfortable, but you can count on him to join alongside you in the journey.

The past shapes who we become, but we have the power to change our lives in the present. Some of our thoughts and feelings are outside of our awareness (unconscious), but by slowing down and being observant, we can become more aware and live more authentically. Travis will help you take a closer look at how you experience yourself and others, your relationships dynamics, and your behaviors to understand your underlying feelings and motivations.

In this work, Travis has helped people navigate the lingering effects of traumatic experiences, such as depression, low self-esteem, and feelings of having too many, or not enough emotions. People in these situations often feel alone and overwhelmed, but in therapy, they have learned to accept and change themselves, while reconnecting with others. Travis uses a Psychodynamic approach, but includes an existential lens where appropriate. He helps clients identify personal values and sources of purpose/meaning. Travis also enjoys working with big thinkings and high achievers trying to navigate the complexities of life, or find more purpose/meaning in their lives.

Travis earned a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Westmont College. He’s worked with diverse clients in a variety of settings who feel overwhelmed, “stuck” in their current situations, or are considering making major life changes. He has experience working in both traditional and non-traditional therapy settings, including a correctional facility and crisis center. Travis is committed to growing as a counselor, so he regularly participates in extra training, writing professional journal articles and attending/presenting at conferences. Travis is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the District of Columbia under the supervision of Raquel Carrera Adams, LCPC, LPC, NCC.
