OUR SERVICES
Supervision & Consultation
Supporting Therapists in Deepening Clinical Insight and Professional Growth
Our supervision goes beyond meeting licensure requirements; we focus on cultivating an understanding of psychodynamic principles, enhancing your ability to navigate complex clinical scenarios with confidence.
Clinical Supervision
Supervision for State Licensure (DC, MD, VA)
We offer board-approved supervision to support licensure in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia, with a focus on ethical, reflective, and relationally grounded practice.
Support for Clinical Growth
Supervision is a space to expand your skills, deepen your understanding of the therapeutic process, and develop your unique voice as a clinician.
Ongoing Performance and Practice Reflection
We’ll regularly review your clinical work with the aim of sharpening insight, clarifying interventions, and building confidence in clinical decision-making
Prioritizing Client Welfare
We keep client care at the heart of our work—supervision includes an ongoing focus on ethical practice, boundaries, and the complexity of real-world clinical dynamics.
Empowering Toward Professional Autonomy
Our goal is to help you think like a therapist—capable of evaluating your own work, navigating uncertainty, and growing into a confident, independent professional.
Professional Consultation
Build Your Clinical Skills & Case Understanding
Our work goes beyond symptom management or surface-level strategies. Through a psychodynamic lens, we’ll look at the unconscious dynamics at play in your cases—exploring transference, developmental history, and relational patterns that inform the therapy process. Together, we’ll deepen your capacity to think psychodynamically and hold the complexity of your clients’ inner worlds.
Understand Your Reactions and Feelings Towards Clients
Consultation is a space to reflect on the emotional undercurrents of your work. We pay close attention to your countertransference—not just as a reaction, but as valuable information about the client’s experience and your therapeutic stance. With curiosity and care, we explore how your emotional responses shape the treatment and inform your clinical intuition.
Enhance Your Professional Development for Better Client Retention
Therapists who commit to depth-oriented learning often sustain richer, longer-term work with clients. We’ll discuss how post-graduate development—such as study groups, your own therapy, writing, or teaching—can deepen your clinical thinking and enhance your ability to hold clients in a meaningful, long-term process.
Problem-Solve the Challenges of Private Practice
Building and maintaining a private practice can be overwhelming. Receive hands-on support and practical strategies for overcoming common challenges—whether it’s managing your workload, handling tough client situations, or navigating business logistics.
Grow Your Network and Build Referral Sources
Relational practice extends beyond the therapy room. We’ll explore how you present yourself professionally, what inhibits or supports your confidence. Building a network is also about understanding your professional story—and how to share it meaningfully.
OUR APPROACH
A small practice with big commitment to professional growth.
At RTC Counseling, we partner with clinicians who want more than just surface-level tools—they’re interested in becoming reflective, skilled, and deeply attuned therapists. We believe that real growth comes from sustained learning: engaging in long-term training, deepening work in a chosen modality, staying active in the field, and doing one’s own therapeutic work.
Our clinicians are thoughtfully mentored by Raquel Carrera Adams, LCPC, LPC, NCC, and immersed in a community that values curiosity, integrity, and meaningful development—well beyond the minimum required.
Raquel Carrera Adams, LCPC, LPC, NCC
Raquel Carrera Adams, LCPC, LPC, NCC, is a psychodynamic therapist and clinical supervisor who brings depth, warmth, and thoughtfulness to her work with emerging clinicians. She is the founder of Road To Change Counseling and is licensed to practice in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.
Raquel helps clinicians deepen their therapeutic work by learning to listen with greater flexibility and nuance. Her supervision emphasizes the art of psychodynamic listening—not just attending to what clients say, but also tuning in to what may be unspoken, symbolic, or unconscious. This approach allows supervisees to better recognize the emotional undercurrents in their work, including transference, defenses, internal conflicts, and symbolic communication. By cultivating these skills, Raquel supports clinicians in developing a richer, more layered understanding of their clients and the therapeutic relationship.
Raquel is a Board Certified (NBCC) Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia and Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a Board Approved Supervisor for Maryland and for Virginia Counselors In-Training. She can also provide supervision to District of Columbia LGPCs needing hours for licensure. She received her Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and studied Psychology at Towson University.
Dedicated to raising the standard of care in the field, Raquel invests deeply in training new therapists. In addition to her work with pre-licensed counselors, she provides psychotherapy consultation to psychiatry residents at Howard University and teaches in the Psychoanalytic Studies Program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis—a two-year, post-graduate training program in psychoanalytic principles. Her commitment to the development of thoughtful, well-trained clinicians is at the heart of her supervisory work.
